How much does the stand by light cost ?
When I turn my t.v. off it goes into stand by mode, the only way I can turn the power off is at the socket. What is the cost of leaving the stand by light on ? THANK YOU.

- dont know. Hope this helped...
- Well, the light is just there to tell you that the set is in standby, and so it's the electronics in the set in a low-power mode that use the power, not really the actual light. It should say in the instructions for the tv. Typically, it might be 10W, which is 1/100th of a kilowatt and one kilowatt run for one hour uses one unit of electricity, which is, what, about 15p or so? So, something at 10W uses 0.15p per hour (you can check your electricity bill for the actual unit price). Of course, I only used 10W to make it easier for me to calculate, so your set may use more.
- It can be quite significant but I can't put a figure on it. I used to work as a tv, video etc service engineer and just like all the advice regards leaving things in standby I can confirm that many electronic items are very much still switched on while in standby. A worst case I remember was some satellite recieving equipment that while in standby simply muted the sound and video and the display dimmed. The difference in electricity consumption between on and standby was virtually negligable. Televisions aren't quite that bad but you're still neddlessly using and paying for electricity. We wouldn't leave a light switched on all day while we were out but so many people do the equivalent with their electronic equipment and computers. It might take a while to get used to it and may even be slightly inconvenient but ultimately properly switching things off is a good habit to get into.
- The telly is powered by a transformer. The primary coil is still drawing power as though the telly was still on, therefore the same as when you're using it as the LED draws off the secondary.
