How do you do a photo shoot if you are a guy in a band?

Hey, I hate taking pictures; literally avoid them at all costs! There's a HUGE problem with this though - I'm a musician. Not your band geek musician, I perform on stages and things like that with music I write. Here is my question: I'm about to do a photo shoot and I have NO idea what on God's Earth I'm doing! What should I expect? What should I do? What should I bring? Please! Enlighten me!

  1. First of all, relax. We photographers are not going to bite. If you have any ideas of what kind of photos you want taken, then bring them along. The photographer will probably also have some ideas. Remember, you don't have to do anything that you don't want to do. If they want you to do something, like go topless for example, and you don't want to, then say so. Just have fun with it. You'll feel a little awkward to start with, but you'll soon relax and you'll have a great time. Bring something with you like a book to read, or something to pass the time. Sometimes setting things up can take a very long time.
  2. Remain open minded and allow the photographer to take the initiative to move and mold you the way they know will turn out good by experience. Trust them. Just as you make music they take pictures. Bring a couple changes of clothes and a few extra bucks to tip the photographer. Don't be too difficult to work with. It only slows things down and hinders quality results. Swallow your pride and do what needs to be done... Not for your sake, but for your bands. Good Luck!
