I am an American who wants to work in Europe. I am skilled in film production ie lighting, camera grip.?
How do I go about finding work in Europe?

- With all due respect, if you can't find work in the whole of the USA what makes you think you'll find work in Europe ? Apart from your stated skills and experience what language skills do you have ? Europeans speak many languages and English is not yet universal except within the UK so being able to converse in the language of any other European country of choice would be an advantage if not a necessity.
- If you are a member of a guild they can tell you all the groups filming in your areas of europe and what positions they have available. Like the US, check the local film and talent unions for the latest production lists. The local government film office also has a list. The local government film office also can tell you what you need to work in that particular area. Film has been in europe longer than in the US, so many countries have well established support groups for your need.
- Most European countries do not give work permits to Americans unless they have specialized, needed talents (like doctors, specialized accountants). Film crew just does not make the list. In addition you should know at least 2 languages other than English. Fluent not just getting by in the language as well. Their guilds are like our unions - you gotta know people to get in, pay up front, and do your apprenticeship. From your question i deduce you are not a member of the IA or any other motion picture industry union (NABET.) You might be able to work under the table on non-union/guild films, just like you can here, but it will be the same situation. Peanuts for a long a$$ed day, and you'll be lucky if you actually are paid. Being an illegal will just make you more vulnerable. You would have to get into the IATSE, ASC or DGA and get hired by a company to work on a specific project.
