How much should an 18-year old female model charge for her first photo shoot?

A friend of mine was contacted by a few (7 or 8) local photographers to ask what she would charge for a photo shoot after the photographers saw her High School Senior Portraits. How much shoud she charge? She does not want to say too small of an amount so she does not seem naive, but she does not want to ask for too much, either.

  1. Well that depends who she wants to shoot
  2. Are they shooting her naked or in lingerie?! Its really weird that she would be approached in this way and because of her year book picture. I'd stay away if I were her!
  3. Depends really on what is going to be shot, duration etc. Sometimes models will give a day rate if the shoot is long enough. Just my 2 cents worth, being approached by that many photographers after seeing a high school senior portrait seems a bit fishy to me especially for someone with no modeling experience. Last, normally real photographers will not offer pay to a model that has no experience, these shoots are normally what are called a TFP "Time for Prints" or "Time for CD"
  4. I tend to agree with the other's that answered, most inexperienced models work for prints. I've never heard of photographers willing to pay an inexperienced model, unless they work for the porn industry. If a person claiming to be a photographer is offering to pay your friend based on a yearbook picture, I would be very suspicious. You and your friend should check into these photographers credentials and ask to view a portfolio before you let him anywhere near your friend. There has been plenty of weirdos claiming to be something they are not in order to take advantage of a naive girl.
  5. Dont let her go! If she decides to anyway make sure this is for real...check referances of others he has has pose, ask to see the previous work and make sure she brings a male friend with her. If the photographer is of real he will not mind another person being there! Yes, most work for prints to build up a portfolio for them and the photographer. Approach this with caution! There are a lot of scum bags out there!
  6. People pay me to take their photos...not the other way around. Please tell your friend to be careful.
